Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a Medical Degree with a DM or MD in Pharmacology (Clinical) or PhD in Pharmacology, from a recognized university or closely related field.
Candidates should also possess:
- At least three (3) years’ teaching experience at the postgraduate level
- Medical: research experience in Clinical Pharmacology or Therapeutics
- PhD (Non-Medical): research experience in Experimental Pharmacology
- Experience in writing examination questions in Pharmacology for undergraduate medical programme
- Proficiency in curriculum development
Candidates with the following would have an advantage:
- Board eligible or Board Certified
- Post-doctoral training in Clinical or Experimental Pharmacology
- Experience in curriculum development for undergraduate teaching
- Experience in postgraduate research supervision
- Experience in conducting laboratory experiments
- Possess skills in course and project coordination
The following would be considered assets:
- Certificate in university teaching and learning
- Familiarity with Problem-Based Learning (PBL)
- A good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
- Proficiency in writing research grants and attracting funding
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching of the specialty to undergraduate and postgraduate student
- Mentoring medical students in Pharmacology, as well as supervising and assisting with postgraduate training
- Participating in all routine Departmental activities, which include meetings and representation in various Committees of the Faculty
- Delivering teaching in Pharmacology in the medical curriculum
- Forging working relationships with societal stakeholders including industry and NGOs to design Pharmacology Practice and Research Projects
- Supporting University assessment and examination activities
- Assessing and re-evaluating the Pharmacology curriculum for continuous quality assurance
- Organizing and conducting module examinations
Personal Attributes

Candidates should also:
- Display good organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills
- Be willing to work as part of the team of the Pharmacology Unit to deliver the teaching in the medical curriculum
- Be able to complement the Department’s research agenda
- Be willing to interact with multi-disciplinary staff in the Department for delivery of teaching
- Be creative and innovative in delivery of undergraduate curriculum
- Be willing to forge working relationships with internal and external partners to develop impactful research projects
