Grade 9 Facilities Maintenance Technician

Applications are invited for the post of Facilities Maintenance Technician (Grade 9) in the School of Education, Faculty of Humanities and Education.
Duties of the post include:
1. Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all the facilities occupied by the School of Education, Faculty of Humanities and Education by ensuring that all general maintenance works are undertaken, completed and inspected as required.
2. Assigning, checking a supervising the work of the General Maintenance Assistant and/or assigned staff at the School of Education
3. Overseeing and managing the implementation of facilities upgrades, renovations, construction, relocation and other related projects for the entire Faculty.
4. Advising on all matters relating to or adversely affecting the functional integrity of the School of Education buildings.
5. Assisting with security systems operations, including managing keys and facilities services at the School of Education and recommending remedial measures.
6. Liaising with the Department of Facilities Management to ensure prompt response to requests requiring their input and following up to ensure correction of problems.
7. Liaising with contractors including but not limited to Campus Projects office and other stakeholders to ensure prompt and effective provision of service required.
8. Directing and overseeing the development and preparation of scope of works documents and contract specifications for facilities management contracted services.
9. Preparing and implementing a preventative maintenance plan and risk assessments as needed for all Faculty of Humanities and Education building facilities, grounds, air conditioning, plumbing, security systems and electrical systems.
10. Responding to emergency calls to maintain a safe and proper operating environment.
11. Advising the Faculty of Humanities and Education OSHE committee and ensuring compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) and proper systems for the security of all facilities and occupants are in place.
12. Liaising with the OSHE unit and referring to Occupational Health and Safety issues to the relevant OSHE personnel on behalf of the Faculty of Humanities and Education.
13. Assisting with maintaining Faculty fixed assets and assisting with Faculty level events.
14. Representing the Faculty of Humanities on committee meetings and other fora on facilities management and related matters.
15. Assisting with the preparation of special, routine and ad hoc reports on the maintenance works in the Faculty of Humanities and Education.
16. Any other duties that may be assigned by the Director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Applicants should be familiar with the University’s mission, structure, policies, and procedures. They must possess knowledge and experience in building maintenance. Applicants should have specialised skills in the installation, repair, and maintenance of various equipment and components across multiple trades, typically acquired through a combination of direct, relevant training and on-the-job experience.
Applicants should also have knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (2004, amended 2006). They must be able to work with minimal supervision and possess the ability to guide and direct other staff members. Additionally, they should be capable of assigning personnel, enforcing safety regulations, and ensuring adherence to proper codes and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
An approved B.Sc. in Mechanical/Electrical/Civil Engineering/Utilities Engineering; its equivalent or higher standard of education from a registered/accredited institution.
EXPERIENCE
Essential:
At least five (5) years of relevant work experience. Candidates should possess a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience which will be considered an asset.

Salary will be fixed in accordance with Grade 9 of the salary scale at a rate of $10,155.00 per month.
