Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a PhD from a recognized university, which should be in Horticulture, Crop Science, Agronomy or a closely related field with an emphasis on Entomology.Candidates should also possess:
- At least three (3) years’ teaching experience at a recognized tertiary institution/university
- Substantial record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
- Competence in Applied Entomology, including Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
- Competence in Sustainable Horticulture and Crop Production Systems
- MSc. or MPhil in Entomology, with a strong focus on Sustainable Horticulture, Agronomy and Applied Entomology
- Experience in supervising postgraduate students at the MSc, MPhil and PhD levels
- Proof of knowledge of Climate-Smart Agriculture principles and technologies, such as Protected Agriculture
- Proof of a strong record of securing external research grants
- Ability to develop and teach new courses, such as Apiculture Technologies
The following would be considered assets:
- Certificate in university teaching and learning
- Experience in insect farming
- Experience in developing and delivering professional training or contributing to agro-environmental services
- Evidence of impactful, externally-funded research projects relevant to the Caribbean agri-food sector
- Knowledge of commercial plant propagation, nursery management, and floriculture
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Entomology, Sustainable Horticulture, and Climate-Smart Agriculture
- Developing and delivering new courses
- Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc, MPhil, PhD) research projects
- Securing external research grants and contributing to the University’s "Revenue Revolution"
- Strengthening the Horticulture and Crop Protection Unit
- Supporting the MSc in Tropical Crop Protection
- Contributing to ongoing research projects
