Workshop Supervisor (Civil) (Grade 10)

Applications are invited for the post of Workshop Supervisor-Civil (Grade 10), in the Division of Facilities Management.
The successful candidate would be responsible for assisting the Manager-Buildings and Infrastructure in the planning and execution of maintenance and development works as assigned to the civil section, including the carpentry shop, painting shop, masonry and drafting works. This includes works executed by regular labour as well as by contract and casual labour.
Duties of the post include:
1. Directly supervising the Foremen and staff of the Civil Section and ensuring the proper use, maintenance and control of all equipment, tools and workshop machinery used in civil operations.
2. Monitoring and reviewing the work of internal crews, both in the workshop and on site, to ensure compliance with client requirements, quality standards and established safety regulations.
3. Conducting regular facility walk-throughs to identifying potential safety and/or maintenance hazards and ensuring that corrective action is taken in a timely manner.
4. Planning, scheduling and coordinating all civil maintenance, repair and refurbishment works, including logging, tracking and following up on service/work requests through the established system.
5. Maintaining accurate records, databases and documentation required for the effective supervision, reporting and operational control of the Civil Section.
6. Assisting in preparing and developing Scope of Works (SOW) documents and tender documentation for in-house and contracted civil projects, in accordance with procurement policies, and overseeing the initiation, execution and close-out of related works.
7. Liaising with client departments, contractors and other internal and external stakeholders on matters related to civil maintenance and facilities management and providing timely updates and feedback as required.
8. Representing the Division at official meetings as required and ensuring that the Manager – Buildings and Infrastructure/Divisional Manager is appropriately updated on action items and timelines.
9. Preparing business, operational and performance reports on a weekly/monthly basis or as directed.
10. Preparing and submitting performance appraisal reports for subordinate/junior staff in accordance with established procedures.
11. Reviewing internal operations and making recommendations to improve efficiency, effectiveness and overall service delivery within the Civil Section.
12. Assisting in the establishment, implementation and continuous improvement of preventative maintenance programmes, policies and procedures.
13. Ensuring compliance with all applicable health, safety, security and environmental policies and procedures to maintaining a safe working environment.
14. Advising the Manager – Buildings and Infrastructure/Divisional Manager on strategies for enhancing operational efficiency and maintenance standards.
15. Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the Director, Division of Facilities Management or the Divisional Manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Applicants should possess knowledge of tools, equipment and materials common to maintenance and developmental work in the Civil Section, as well as knowledge of construction codes, standards and regulations. Applicants should possess specialized skills that are normally learned through a combination of directly relevant training and on-the-job experience. Applicants must possess sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite. Applicants must possess the ability to work with minimal supervision and to guide and direct other staff members. Applicants must possess the ability to supervise assigned personnel and enforce safety regulations and adherence to proper codes and standards. Proficiency in MS Project and AutoCAD would be an asset. Working knowledge of woodworking and related machinery, recognized testing, civil, structural and building codes such as ASTM, ACI and IBC, as applicable to the outlined role, would be an asset. Applicants should have knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2004 amended 2006. Applicants should have working knowledge of reinforced concrete, structural steel and wood construction methods, buildings and commissioning-related works. Applicants must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, when required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
An approved B.Sc. in Civil or Construction Engineering; its equivalent or higher standard of education from a registered/accredited institution.
EXPERIENCE
Essential:
At least five (5) years’ work experience in a construction environment. Candidates must possess a minimum of (5) years’ of supervisory experience.

Salary will be fixed in accordance with Grade 10 of the salary scale at a rate of $10,761.00 per month.
