Project Coordinator (Grade 10)


Division of Facilities Management

Applications are invited for the post of Project Coordinator (Grade 10), in the Division of Facilities Management.

 

Duties of the post include:

1. Consulting with the various departments on their requirements.

2. Directing the draughtsman and/or preparing the sketches and drawings of proposals for estimates e.g. plans for offices, buildings etc.

3. Preparing tender documents including detailed scope of works (SoW), Bills of Quantities (BoQ) and for works to be done by contractors.

4. Evaluating tenders received and preparing evaluation reports .

5. Preparing cost estimates for tenders and proposals.

6. Liaising with the Manager/Director on the different trades on the progress of planned and ongoing jobs.

7. Reviewing the financial position of all jobs and liaising with the Budgets Clerk in the closing off job cards.

8. Conducting site visits for introducing contractors to projects.

9. Inspecting and carrying out site supervision of works under purview from inception to completion.

10. Chairing site meetings where necessary and preparing minutes as required.

11. Visiting contractors’ workshops, yards etc. to verify and inspect works being undertaken or materials purchased as required.

12. Coordinating work with different trades in the department where required.

13. Inspecting and making recommendations for maintenance, remedial or other work to buildings, roads and other infrastructure.

14. Managing building contracts and contractors.

15. Developing a planned preventive maintenance for the University’s buildings and property.

16. Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the Director, Division of Facilities Management.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Applicants should have knowledge and familiarity with the University’s mission, regulations, structure, policies and procedures. Applicants should possess knowledge of facilities planning and building construction processes, procedures, materials and methods. Applicants must have knowledge of estimating, Tender Evaluation, budgeting and scheduling practices, building and infrastructure designs and codes and standards of practice. Applicants must have specialized skills in reading, interpreting plans and specifications and comparing them with construction in progress. Applicants must have skills in construction inspection and supervision and be able to observe work in progress to gauge timelines, conformance with requirements and acceptable workmanship. Applicants must have a working knowledge of Standard Form Contracts and Contract Management, business application software including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio and AutoCAD. Applicants must be willing and available to work flexible hours including weekends/ public holidays when required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential:

Applicant must possess an approved BSc Civil Engineering; its equivalent or higher standard of education from a registered/accredited institution.

 

EXPERIENCE

Essential:

At least five (5) years’ work experience in a construction environment and a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience.

The salary is fixed in accordance with Grade 10 of the salary scale at a rate of $10,761.00 per month.
