[REVISED] (Temporary) Lecturer in Physiology - Department of Basic Sciences, UWI-GSM [REF# 187-13-103 L1]

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess at minimum, from a recognised university: 

• a PhD or equivalent Doctoral Degree, which should be in Physiology, or a closely related discipline

           OR 

• An MBBS/MD or equivalent medical qualification, with postgraduate training in Physiology or Basic Sciences 

Candidates should also possess: 

• Evidence of prior participation in academic conferences, workshops, or symposia
• A strong foundation in Physiology, Anatomy and Biochemistry

 Candidates with the following would have an advantage:  

• Certification in teaching in Medical or Health Sciences Education
• Certification in Physiologic subspecialties especially Gastrointestinal and Genitourinary Physiology
• Certificate in university teaching and learning
• Certificate in medical ethics or communication skills for doctors
• Experience supervising undergraduate or postgraduate students
• Experience in curriculum design, integration, and assessment (e.g. OSCE, MCQ, Problem-Based Learning)
• Application of evidence-based teaching methods and assessment strategies
• Evidence of engagement with community health priorities in the Caribbean context
• Evidence of active participation in accreditation and quality assurance processes

The following would be considered assets:   

• Fellowship or membership in a recognised professional body (e.g. American Physiological Society, International Society of Nephrology, American Gastroenterological Association)
• At least three (3) years’ teaching experience in Medical or Health Sciences Education
• Evidence of published research in Gastrointestinal or Genitourinary Physiology, Nutrition, Metabolism, or Renal Sciences
• Experience with simulation-based education or OSCE station design
• Prior involvement in international collaborations or cross-border medical education initiatives 

Candidates should be registered or be eligible to be registered with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago.  

Key Responsibilities   

• Delivering lecturers, tutorials and laboratory sessions with students in Physiology, GI and GU Basic Sciences
• Designing and implementing assessments aligned with course learning outcomes (e.g., OSCE, written exams, practical tests)
• Supervising student projects and providing academic advising
• Contributing to curriculum development and accreditation processes (CAAM-HP standards)
• Engaging in scholarly activity, including research and publication
• Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines to ensure integrated teaching
• Promoting professional values, ethics, and communication skills in medical education

Compensation 

Basic Salary: Lecturer (Non-Medical) – TT$ 254,136.00 per annum 

Benefits: Transportation Allowance – TT$39,000.00 per annum

                Housing Allowance – 20% of basic salary

The appointment is for a fixed term, beginning 2026 November 01 and ending no later than 2027 October 31.
