The Council of The University of the West Indies (UWI) is conducting a search for a Vice-Chancellor and to that end, is inviting expressions of interest, nominations and applications for the post. The successful candidate is expected to assume office on August 1, 2027.

The UWI is a dynamic, regional institution serving 17 countries of the Commonwealth Caribbean. Its Faculties offer a wide range of undergraduate, masters' and doctoral programmes in Agricultural Sciences and Sustainability, Culture, Creative and Performing Arts, Engineering, Humanities and Education, Law, Medical Sciences, Science & Technology, Social Sciences and Sport. At 78 years old, the institution represents the oldest of its kind within the region and has produced outstanding leaders in both the public and private sectors. In furtherance of its mission to propel the economic, social, political and cultural development of Caribbean West Indian society through teaching, research, intellectual leadership, advisory and community services, we are seeking to appoint an outstanding entrepreneurial, transformational, academic leader.

The successful candidate will be charged with developing and executing a bold vision that advances the University's academic reputation and global standing. Key priorities include advancing academic and research excellence, strategic leadership and transformation, leading comprehensive fundraising efforts, enrollment growth, market expansion, increased research productivity and scholarly output, financial sustainability and strategic resource management.

The new Vice-Chancellor must possess the credibility, vision, entrepreneurial acuity and intellectual respect needed to interact effectively with the highest levels of government, business, civic society and other academic and international organisations. Significantly, the Vice-Chancellor is empowered by statute to maintain and promote the efficiency and good order of the University for which he/she shall be ultimately responsible to the Council. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. However, priority will be given to suitably qualified Caribbean nationals and their descendants, including those in the diaspora.
