(Temporary) Lecturer in Anatomy - Department of Basic Sciences, UWI-GSM [REF# 187-13-108 L1]

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess at minimum, from a recognised university: 

• A PhD or equivalent Doctoral Degree which should be in Anatomy or a closely related Anatomical Science (e.g. Clinical Anatomy, Gross Anatomy, Histology, Embryology, Neuroscience) 

           OR  

• An MBBS/MD or equivalent medical qualification, with postgraduate qualifications in Anatomy 

Candidates should also possess:  

• Evidence of successful teaching in Anatomy at university level
• Evidence of scholarly activity appropriate to career stage
• Demonstrated expertise in Anatomy 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:   

• Additional postgraduate training in Anatomy
• Formal training in medical education, curriculum design, or higher education pedagogy
• At least three (3) years’ teaching and/or research experience in Anatomy
• Experience teaching medical students
• Experience in student assessment including written examinations, practical examinations and OSCEs
• Experience supervising laboratory sessions
• Experience integrating Anatomy teaching with clinical application
• Experience delivering Anatomy teaching within clinical settings
• Research expertise in Musculoskeletal Anatomy
• Research expertise in Neuroanatomy
• Curriculum development and course design
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to integrated systems-based curricula 

The following would be considered assets:   

• Certification in University Teaching and Learning
• Certificate in Medical Ethics
• Certificate in Communication Skills for Healthcare Professionals
• Experience teaching in accredited medical programmes
• Experience with online, blended or hybrid learning
• Experience supervising student research projects
• Evidence of curriculum development
• Peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations
• Success in obtaining research grants or educational funding
• Experience with cadaveric dissection
• Experience with digital anatomy platforms, virtual dissection systems, or synthetic anatomical models
• Expertise in Histology, Embryology, Imaging Anatomy, or Anatomy Education
• Familiarity with competency-based medical education
• Familiarity with educational technologies
• Evidence of leadership in educational innovation 

Candidates should be registered or be eligible to be registered with the Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago.  

Key Responsibilities   

• Delivering lectures, case-based discussions, and supervised laboratory sessions in Anatomy and related areas to foster student-centered education
• Developing and updating course materials aligned with North American MD standards and CAAM-HP accreditation requirements
• Assessing student performance through OSCEs, written exams, and practical evaluations
• Maintaining rigorous academic standards for student assessment, aligning with North American USMLE-style questioning
• Supervising laboratory activities including cadaveric dissection (if applicable) or high-fidelity digital/synthetic anatomical models
• Collaborating with colleagues to ensure seamless integration between the various systems covered in the MD Curriculum
• Facilitating group discussions
• Mentoring students in clinical application of Anatomy
• Contributing to curriculum development, faculty meetings, and accreditation readiness activities

Compensation 

Basic Salary: Lecturer (Medical) – TT$282,600.00 per annum 

Benefits: Transportation Allowance – TT$39,000.00 per annum

                Housing Allowance – 20% of basic salary

The appointment is for a fixed term, beginning 2026 November 01 and ending no later than 2027 October 31.
