Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Transportation Engineering [REF#173/3/1-3 L1]

The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a PhD from a recognised university, in Transportation Engineering or a closely related field, with a B.Sc. (Honours) in Civil Engineering or Civil and Environmental Engineering, or an equivalent/related Engineering discipline. 

Candidates should also possess: 

• At least three (3) years’ teaching experience at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, at a recognised tertiary institution/university, in the field of Engineering or a closely related field.
• A substantial record of academic research output and publications in reputable peer reviewed journals, particularly in the area of Transportation Engineering or equivalent/related field
• Familiarity with commercial and open-source transportation analysis and modelling software, together with the planning and design of transportation systems
• Expertise in the areas of planning, design, operation, management, analysis or sustainability of transportation systems
• Strong expertise in Machine Learning, Simulation and Modelling
• Strong expertise in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
• Expertise in one (1) or more of the following areas: 

           o   Traffic Engineering

           o   Transportation Planning

           o   Sustainable Mobility

           o   Transportation Safety and Security

           o   Public Transportation Systems

           o   Informal Transportation Systems

           o   Transportation Asset Management

           o   Traffic Operations and Traffic Flow Analysis

Candidates with the following would have an advantage: 

• Experience in the supervision of student research projects at Bachelors or Masters or Doctoral level
• A good record of industry interaction to provide practical industry experience to students
• Evidence of academic research and professional interests in the areas of Contemporary Transportation Engineering and/or Emerging Transportation Technologies
• Evidence of contributing to funding proposals and successfully obtaining funding for research
• Research expertise in Transportation Engineering relevant to Small Island Developing States (SIDS)

The following would be considered assets: 

• A Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Engineering or a closely related field
• Certification in university teaching and learning
• Demonstrated professional practice, consultancy experience, or engagement in Transportation Engineering and related infrastructure projects
• Evidence of active engagement with industry, government agencies, professional organisations, or transportation policy development 

Key Responsibilities  

• Teaching and assessing undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Transportation Engineering and related areas of expertise
• Providing academic advising and mentorship to undergraduate and postgraduate students
• Supervising graduate students at the MSc, MPhil and PhD levels particularly in the area of Transportation Engineering and related fields
• Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, fieldworks, seminars and other position related activities
• Contributing to course development, programme development and review, and the design of innovative teaching materials for all delivering modes
• Modernising the Transportation Engineering Laboratory, including transportation modelling, simulation, engineering tools, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and other teaching and research facilities relevant to the discipline
• Contributing to programme administration, accreditation and quality assurance activities
• Strengthening the Department’s outreach activities, through collaborations, external research funding, publications, conferences and other research outputs
• Strengthening the Department’s partnership with industry and other professional organisations
• Collaborating with academic staff, students and external partners to enhance teaching, research, and professional practice 
• Serving on Committees and functions at the Department, Faculty and University levels as required
