Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a PhD, which should be in Economics or a closely related
field.

Candidates should also possess:

  • At least three (3) years teaching experience in two or more of the following areas:

                o Economic Statistics
                o Matrix Algebra and Calculus
                o Monetary Economics
                o History of Economic Thought

  • A good record of research and publications in reputable, peer reviewed journals
  • Experience in online delivery of courses and use of educational technology
  • Research expertise in Monetary Economics

 Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Postgraduate teaching experience in at least one (1) of the following areas:

            o Monetary Economics
            o Financial Economics

  • Experience in course creation and development
  • Experience in engaging in community outreach activities
  • Experience in the supervision of students at the postgraduate level

 The following would be considered assets:

  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Proficiency in teaching with diverse instructional methods including face-to-face, blended learning and online
  • Evidence of prior success in assessing research and instructional programmes and in reviewing students’ learning outcomes to ensure achievement of academic objectives and strategies

Special Responsibilities

  • Supervising the MSc, MPhil and PhD students
  • Teaching courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Coordinating undergraduate programmes and providing academic advising and supervision for undergraduate students
  • Providing advice, guidance and supervision for postgraduate research
  • Fostering intra/inter Faculty/Campus teaching and research networks
  • Attracting external research and development funding
  • Serving on Committees at the Department, Faculty and University levels
  • Participating in the design and development of courses, teaching materials and/or programmes
  • Establishing research programmes that lead to publications in refereed journals
  • Contributing to the development of the Department’s curriculum
  • Collaborating locally, regionally and internationally with colleagues in research and cocurricular activities
  • Participating in Departmental and Faculty seminarsSupporting the outreach profile and engaging in the outreach activities of the Department
