Grade 9 Senior Research Technician

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Research Technician (Grade 9) in the School of

Education, Faculty of Humanities and Education.

Duties of the Post include:

1.Supervising all multimedia technicians, Laboratory Assistants and student assistants in media services, including daily workflow activities

2.Coordinating the timely setup and removal of equipment and managing personnel support for classes at the SoE as well as for special events.

3.Supervising the installation, operation and troubleshooting of AV equipment 

4.Working with the SoE Educational Technologists to provide information and training on equipment in smart classrooms.

5.Liaising with the Faculty I.T officer in the acquisition of hardware and software related to AV services.

6.Leading the digitization and classification of archives from the SOE

7.Working under the guidance of Educational Technologists to obtain estimates, bids, service contracts and repairs for equipment

8. Supporting the website committee of the school.

9.Monitoring all quality and safety issues related to AV services, actively promoting safety as a priority.

10.Assisting Educational Technologists in video and audio production and in the development of innovative educational products in AV.

11.Maintaining an up to date inventory of all AV and multimedia equipment.

12.Managing operation of the security systems at the SoE

13.Setting-up, testing, calibration and commissioning of equipment and devices as required to produce fully functional systems.

14.Supporting related research activities in the Department.

15.Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Applicants should be familiar with the University’s mission, structure, policies and procedures. Applicants must have specialized knowledge of multi-media and audio-visual services, including but not limited to mixing equipment, lighting tools, cameras, microphones, projectors, video recorders, amplifiers and spotlights. Applicants must possess knowledge of various manufacturers and technology platforms for Digital Media, Digital Video, Biamp, Video Conferencing, Audio Conferencing, Polycom, AMX, Clearone, and Crestron. Candidates should possess the ability to problem-solve equipment failure and to repair simple issues and learn new technologies. Applicants should be able to provide leadership, mentoring and coaching for other technicians. Applicants must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and willing to work flexible hours, including weekends/public holidays when required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Required:

A B.Sc. /B.A. in Video production, Film, Audio Visual Technology, Information and Communication Technology

Desirable:

Postgraduate qualifications in Video production, Film, Audio Visual Technology, Information and Communication Technology will be an advantage.

Experience:

Required:

Five years (5) relevant experience in Audio Visual Technology or multimedia production and services and one (1) to Three (3) years experience as a lead technician in AV or multimedia production and services.

Salary will be fixed in accordance with Grade 9 of the salary scale  ($10,155.00 x 312 -  $ 13,899).
