Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess:

1. DM/MD in Family Medicine/General Practice

OR

2. Membership in the Royal College of General Practitioners (MR CGP)

OR

3. Certification from the Caribbean College of Family Physicians (CCFP)

OR

4. An equivalent and recognized postgraduate degree in Family Medicine

 

Candidates should also possess:

  • Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
  • Considerable tertiary level teaching experience at the undergraduate level
  • Five (5) years’ post specialization experience in the field of Family Medicine/ General Practice after post graduate degree
  • Proficiency in developing, coordinating and evaluating clinical sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Evidence of providing clinical training to undergraduate and postgraduate students in Family Medicine

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Practical experience in:

             o strategic curriculum development of postgraduate programmes
             o training of postgraduate students in laboratory medicine

  • Graduate teaching experience in Family Medicine
  • Proficiency in supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate student research

 

The following would be considered assets:

  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Experience in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) system
  • Experience in blended teaching and learning
  • Proficiency in writing research grants and attracting funding

 

Candidates must be registered or able to register with the Medical Board of Trinidad and
Tobago.

 

Special Responsibilities

  • Teaching and coordination of course at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Mentoring medical students in Public Health and Primary Care, as well as assisting with postgraduate training
  • Familiarity with Problem-Based Learning (PBL)
  • Support university assessment and examination activities
  • Participating in all routine Departmental activities, which includes meetings and representation in various committees of the Faculty
  • Developing, coordinating, and evaluating clinical sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Conducting clinical training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Family Medicine
  • Assisting in at least two (2) modules in the Family Medicine postgraduate programmes
  • Supervising postgraduate research students
  • Providing feedback to specialists who assist with PG teaching
