Qualifications and Experience


The successful candidate must possess a MBBS or equivalent and an MD, DrPH, or PhD, which
should be in Public Health.

 

Candidates should also possess:

  • Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
  • At least five (5) years teaching experience in the area of Public Health post qualification
  • Proficiency in supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate student research
  • Competence in Communicable Disease, Chronic Non-Communicable Disease, Health Promotion, Monitoring and Evaluation and Epidemiology

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage:

  • Certification in at least one (1) of the core modules of Public Health such as Epidemiology, Chronic Diseases, Health and Law, Public Health Ethics, Health Economics, Health Management, Health Administration, Infectious Diseases
  • Practical experience in:

              o strategic curriculum development of postgraduate programmes
              o training of postgraduate students in laboratory medicine

  • Graduate teaching experience in Public Health
  • Professional experience in Public Health
  • Working knowledge of SPSS or other statistical software
  • Competence in assessing and re-evaluating MPH curricula for continuous quality assurance
  • Proficiency in organizing and conducting module examinations

 

The following would be considered assets:

  • Certificate in university teaching and learning
  • Experience in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) system
  • Experience in blended teaching and learning
  • Experience in teaching clinical (medical) students at both undergraduate & postgraduate level
  • Proficiency in writing research grants and attracting funding

 

Special Responsibilities

  • Teaching of Public Health medical curriculum to undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Mentoring medical students in Public Health and Primary Care, as well as assisting with postgraduate training
  • Participating in all routine Departmental activities, which includes meetings and representation in various Committees of the Faculty
  • Forging working relationships with societal stakeholders including industry and NGOs to design Public Health Practice and Research Projects
  • Supporting University assessment and examination activities
  • Assessing and re-evaluating the MPH curriculum for continuous quality assurance
  • Organizing and conducting module examinations
