Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a PhD or equivalent from a recognized university, which should be in Human Anatomy or a closely related field.

Candidates should also possess teaching experience in Anatomy (gross, histology, embryology) to medical students.

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage: 

  • A record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
  • Evidence of research in Basic Medical Sciences or Translational Research

 

 The following would be considered assets: 

  • MSc/MS in Anatomy or MBBS/MBChB as an additional qualification
  • Experience using modern methods of teaching Anatomy (e.g., virtual reality/online anatomy teaching tools)

 

Special Responsibilities  

  • Teaching courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Coordinating undergraduate programmes, and providing academic advising and supervision for undergraduate students
  • Providing advice, guidance and supervision for postgraduate research
  • Fostering intra/inter Faculty/Campus teaching and research networks
  • Attracting external research and development funding
  • Serving on Committees at the Department, Faculty and University levels
  • Participating in the design and development of courses, teaching materials and/or programmes
  • Establishing research programmes that lead to publications in refereed journals
  • Contributing to the Department’s curriculum
  • Engaging in community outreach initiatives
  • Collaborating locally, regionally and internationally with colleagues in research and cocurricular activities
  • Participating in Departmental and Faculty seminars 

 

 Personal Attributes

The Campus places high priority on individuals of integrity who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates should also: 

  • Be able to engage in teamwork with colleagues in teaching and research
  • Have an interest in the use of modern methods of teaching Anatomy including the use of virtual reality/online anatomy teaching tools
  • Be familiar with Problem-based learning (PBL) or small group learning methods
  • Be able to complement the Department’s research agenda
  • Have an interest in medical education research
