Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess a PhD or equivalent from a recognized university, which should be in Mathematics with a focus in Discrete Mathematics.

 

Candidates should also possess: 

  • Three (3) years teaching experience at the tertiary level
  • A good record of research publications in the area of Discrete Mathematics

 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage: 

  • Experience in the supervision of projects at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
  • Familiarity with online teaching and learning tools and resources
  • Competence in curriculum development and participation in outreach activities
  • Evidence of an independent and collaborative cross-disciplinary research agenda

 

 The following would be considered assets: 

  • Certification in teaching at the tertiary level
  • Postgraduate teaching experience
  • Proficiency in the use of mathematical software (such as MATLAB, Maple, Mathematica)
  • Evidence of prior success in attracting external research funding
  • Evidence of prior success in mentoring students

 

Special Responsibilities  

  • Teaching courses in Mathematics, especially in Discrete Mathematics
  • Engaging in individual and collaborative research projects
  • Publishing in quality journals
  • Making a substantial contribution to curriculum development, to assist with academic advising and to take an active role in outreach and professional activities

 

Personal Attributes 

The Campus places high priority on individuals of integrity who can work well in a team and student friendly environment. Candidates should also possess good communication and interpersonal skills. A good command of both oral and written English is essential. Candidates should also: 

  • Demonstrate a student-centered approach to teaching
  • Be able to coordinate activities and meet deadlines
  • Possess good leadership and management skills
  • Demonstrate a high level of computer literacy
