The Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS), Regional Coordinating Office (RCO) is located in The UWI Regional Headquarters in Jamaica. In addition to the RCO, the IGDS consists of three campus units: Mona Unit, Jamaica; St. Augustine Unit, Trinidad and Tobago and the Nita Barrow Unit (Cave Hill), Barbados. The IGDS-RCO programmes aim to build capacity to integrate gender perspectives in a range of disciplines and sectors, as well as promote gender equality in policies, programmes and strategies.

 

The ideal candidate should possess: 

  • A PhD in Gender and Development Studies or in a related discipline.
  • At least two years teaching experience at the tertiary level with a focus on Graduate Level courses and supervision.
  • Demonstrated scholarly research and publications using gender analysis.
  • Excellent coordination and management skills.
  • A student-centred approach to education.

 

The successful candidate will be required to: 

  • Teach graduate courses using gender and development theories and methodologies as well as feminist theorizing.
  • Develop and maintain an active research and publication programme.
  • Coordinate the Graduate Programme of the IGDS RCO to include administrative matters, marketing of the programme and management of student affairs.
  • Lead on regional IGDS graduate collaborations.
  • Contribute to the review and revision of graduate level courses and/or programme with a focus on both face to face and online modalities.
  • Lead strategic planning, management and administration of the Institute’s programmes and contribute to the life of the University.
  • Attend relevant regional meetings of the IGDS and UWI relating to Graduate and Research Studies.
  • Support public education policy and advocacy for gender equality, equity and gender justice.
  • Supervise the research papers and theses of graduate students at the level of MSc, MPhil and PhD.
  • Develop graduate courses, course materials and identify appropriate methods for course delivery and assessment including proficiency in online instructional design and delivery.
  • Contribute to harmonised graduate teaching across the IGDS Units.
  • Sustain an active agenda of Public and Professional Service reflecting the IGDS mission.
  • In collaboration with the University Director (UD), recruit and give guidance to part-time specialist lecturers contracted to deliver and assess graduate level courses.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the University Director.
  Candidates who possess the following will be at a distinct advantage:
  • Certificate in University Teaching.
  • Ability to teach in some of the following areas: Gender, Sexuality, Gender, Violence and Conflict Situations, Feminist Theorising, Gender and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Gender, Peace and Social Justice.
  • Proven managerial experience within a Higher Learning Academic Institution.
  • Evidence of Curriculum Development for face-to-face and on-line delivery modes.

  • Strong pedagogical skills in terms of design, delivery and assessment of graduate level courses both face-to-face and online, including mentoring of Master’s, MPhil and PhD students.
