As part of its Human Rights project titled “Growing Capacity for Elevating Trinidad & Tobago to International Human Rights Standards” the Faculty of Law in collaboration with the British High Commission of Port-of Spain and the European Union of Trinidad and Tobago held a panel discussion on Tuesday 4th April, 2017 titled “Perspectives on the Death Penalty: Sorting Fact from fiction” . The panellists included, Mr. Douglas Mendes SC, President of the Law Association of Trinidad & Tobago; Mr. Mark Pritchard, UK MP and Co-Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the abolition of the Death Penalty and Ms. Jadia Jn. Pierre a student of the Faculty of Law. Mme Michèle Duvivier Pierre-Louis, Commissioner at the International Commission against the Death Penalty (ICDP) and former President of Haiti was scheduled to attend but could not due to an unforeseen circumstance.
