The Faculty of Law-Banking Law Workshop

Following the success of the inaugural Banking Law Workshop held on February 21st 2015, the Faculty of Law, UWI St. Augustine held its second instalment on December 8th 2017 at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad (Jade, ruby and Sapphire Rooms). The workshop was facilitated by leading experts in the field of banking and financial law together with specialist from the Faculty of Law, Dr. Chumah Amaefule and Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine.

 

The Banking law Workshop titled “Banker-Customer Relationship in the 21st Century-Present challenges and possible future directions’ was held in collaboration with the First Citizens Bank of Trinidad and Tobago, the Republic Bank and the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago under the National Financial Literacy Programme. Speakers included, Professor Andrew Haynes, a leading author on International Banking, professor of Law at the University of Wolverhampton and Chairman of the Market Abuse Association spoke on the “Contractual Issues in derivatives contracts in International banking”; Ms. Susan Francois the Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit of Trinidad & Tobago, Mr. Leonard Birmingham the director of Virgin Group Holdings limited and former partner at Harney Westwood & Reigels, Ms. Jacqueline Quamina, Former executive Director of the Republic Bank Limited and former General Counsel/ Corporate Secretary and Group General Counsel  of Republic Financial Holdings Limited along with Dr. Shazeeda Ali, Author in Corporate Financial Law and Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, UWI Mona Campus and Dr. Chumah Amaefule, lecturer in Banking Law at the Faculty of Law, UWI St. Augustine Campus.
