The Faculty of Law-Sports Law Workshop

Held on 12th April 2018 at the Queen’s Park Oval Ballroom, the Faculty of Law organised its inaugural Sports Law Workshop titled “Lex Sportiva: Beyond the game”. The workshop was an important part of the Faculty’s initiative which began in 2013 to pioneer relevant, cutting-edge law courses that would meet the needs of a forward looking nation, pursuing dynamic development. It was also part of the mission of the UWI to advance education and create knowledge in order to support the development of the Caribbean region and beyond. Given that Sports Law is indeed an exciting area of law, due to its amalgam of laws touching and fusing different areas of law in a unique way.

 

Presenters included, Professor Ian Blackshaw, an International Sports Lawyer and contributing Editor of the International Sports Law Journal and Honourary Fellow of the International Sports law Centre, TMC Asser Institut, The Hague, The Netherlands; Dr. Jason Haynes, Senior Legal Officer from the British High Commission Barbados, Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, Dean Faculty of Law, UWI St. Augustine, Mr. Deryck Murray, Mr. Dinanath Ramnarine, The Intellectual Property Office of Trinidad & Tobago; Dr. Justin Koo, lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Dr. Sharon Legall, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Mr. Tyrone Marcus, Adjunct Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Ms. Grace Jackson, director of the sports and Physical Education Centre at The UWI, St. Augustine Campus
