The Faculty of Law, UWI-Oil & Gas Law Conference

Following the success of the inaugural Oil & Gas Law Conference which took place in 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port-of Spain, the UWI St. Augustine Faculty of Law organised its second Oil and Gas Law Conference  which was held at the Hilton Trinidad Conference Centre on June 8th and 9th 2017.  The conference addressed the current legal challenges in the Energy sector in light of the decline in oil prices and how this scenario affected oil exploration agreements. It also sought to discuss the legal issues in energy exploration and production that new frontiers experienced and the lessons from more mature jurisdictions.

The respective themes were, Day 1 ‘Exploring the legal framework for Oil & Gas Law’ and Day 2 ‘The Trinidad experience: Setting the context and lessons learnt’. This two day conference was sponsored by BP Trinidad and Tobago, Shell and EOG Resources and included speakers from these companies, the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, along with a high level delegation from the Coventry University from the UK.
