Mission
The Occupational Health, Safety and the Environment (OHSE) Unit previously the Safety Units core function is to manage OHSE risk for The University of the West Indies St. Augustine Campus. Our Stakeholders include; Students, Staff, Visitors, Contractors, Regulatory Agencies.
Vision
The OSHE Unit strives to be identified as an official entity within the Campus Community, continually pioneering towards improving The Occupational Health, Safety and the Environmental conditions for the Campus Community. We strive to be recognized as a high performing team dedicated to improving the OHSE culture of the Campus.
Functions of the OHSE Unit
We strive to manage the OHSE requirements and develop plans to assure compliance. These Include:-
•Developing Policies and Procedures for a structured OHSE Management System •Internal and External OHSE training.
•OHSE Contractor Management
•Incident Investigations
•Disaster Management
•Collaboration with External Agencies such as The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM), The Trinidad and Tobago Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Agency, Environmental Management Authority (EMA), Regional Cooperation’s, Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service (TTFS).
