The UWI STA Operational Planning

the uwi triple a strategy

Access, Alignment, Agility

Message from the Principal

Leading with a Purpose

I am delighted to welcome you to this specially curated space where we will share updates on The University of the West Indies’ strategic planning initiatives and the contributions of the St Augustine Campus to these goals.

Achieving over 75 years of excellence, service and leadership was no small feat for The UWI. Our strategic planning exercise over the years was more than just an in-depth paper-based exercise. Indeed, it is our resourceful compass; a practical guide for our collective footsteps toward attaining an even grander vision in the years ahead.

As an integral part of this process, we have not only heard from you as our internal and external stakeholders, but we have also incorporated your views. We have also utilised our research skills by comprehensively analysing global market trends in higher education and its related services.

It is on this basis that I affirm my confidence in and dedication to successfully implementing the University’s Triple A Strategy 2022-2027 Phase II: Revenue Revolution.

This collaborative endeavour is rooted in the fundamental principles of the Triple A Strategy, which embodies our core aspiration- Access, Alignment, and Agility, namely:

  • Access will create a surge in high-quality tertiary education accessibility.
  • Alignment will allow for forging greater connections and powerful partnerships between our single university and academia, industry, and other international organisations relevant to the needs of the region.
  • Agility will empower us to use The UWI’s resources and capabilities to be responsive to the needs of key stakeholders in a dynamic, ever-changing environment.

Since August 2022, we have been steadfastly committed to fulfilling Phase II of our strategic plan, which will continue through July 2027. This transformative stage is dedicated to leveraging The UWI’s sterling reputation to unlock and drive financial achievement. It follows the successful implementation of the first phase whereby The UWI excelled in academic and teaching indicators, amid financial challenges.

As visionary leaders, we are not strangers to overcoming adversity and as such have made a firm decision to dedicate the entire 2022–2027 strategic execution term to revitalising the University’s financial affairs. Therefore, it is quite apt that Phase II of the Triple A Strategy is labeled as the Revenue Revolution phase, thereby solidifying our intent to continue placing a strong emphasis on revenue generation.

Achieving this strategic plan necessitates the firm commitment and willing collaboration of each member of our vibrant community. To guide the process, I established the Campus Strategic Implementation Committee to spearhead and advise on the execution of major initiatives and I have also tasked each department with developing innovative revenue-generating projects. Further bolstering this effort, an Internal Strategy Review Committee—comprising a diverse cross-functional team—diligently evaluates, supports and guides the projects’ development very much like the Shark Tank process.

I am eager to share some of the strategic priority and revenue-generating projects that were created and will be spearheaded by our faculty, staff, and students as follows:

These initiatives are foundational to ensuring that our campus remains a dynamic, supportive, and high-performing environment.
