What are the UWI Games?

The UWI Games are one of The University of the West Indies’ longest-standing inter-campus sporting traditions. Traditionally held as a biennial sporting competition, the Games bring together student-athletes from across the region in a celebration of sporting excellence, camaraderie and regional unity.

When and where are they held?

The UWI Games 2026 take place from Thursday 21 May to Friday 29 May 2026 in Trinidad and Tobago, with the main hub at The UWI St. Augustine Campus, alongside national sporting venues: 

  • UWI Sport and Physical Education Centre (SPEC) 
  • The National Aquatic Centre 
  • Sir Frank Worrell Cricket Field  
  • Admin East Field  
  • The Hasely Crawford Stadium 
  • The National Racquet Sport Centre 
  • The National Hockey Centre 
Which campuses are participating?

All five UWI campuses will participate in the 2026 Games: Cave Hill, Five Islands, Global Campus, Mona, and St. Augustine.

Which sports are included in the UWI Games?

The 2026 UWI Games will feature ten sporting disciplines:

Will there be an Opening Ceremony?

Yes. There will be an Opening Ceremony on Friday 22 May 2026, at 6:00 a.m. You can watch the ceremony live on UWItv. It includes the torch relay, a symbolic tradition inspired by the Olympic Games. The relay will culminate at the Opening Ceremony, where the lighting of the flame will signify unity, renewed passion and the official start of the Games.    

Attendance
Are the Games free?

Yes, admission to all of the Games is free and open to the public. 

Do I need to register?

Yes, spectators must register to attend.

Can I attend multiple venues?

Yes. Spectators may attend events at multiple venues in one day, subject to the timing of events, venue access arrangements and capacity. 

Are children allowed?

Yes. Children are allowed to attend the Games. 

Are alcohol and cannabis allowed at the Games?

No. To create a comfortable environment for everyone, neither alcohol nor cannabis is allowed at the Games. 

Facilities and Medical Access
Is seating available?

Yes. Official venues provide spectator seating, although capacity varies by location and event. 

Are venues accessible?

Yes. Official venues offer accessibility features. Venue-specific accessibility details will be available through the relevant venue information channels. 

Is parking available?

Parking information will be provided closer to the Games. Some venues may have limited parking, so spectators are encouraged to plan accordingly. 

Is medical care available?

Yes. Medical assistance will be available on-site.

Live schedules, results and updates are available through the official UWI Games website, campus emails and social media platforms.
