Welcome

Join us for the University of the West Indies 2nd International Tourism Conference; Tourism, Culture and The Creative Industries: Exploring the Linkages. This year’s conference will be hosted by the Department of Management Studies, UWI, St. Augustine campus, Trinidad in collaboration with The Ted Rogers School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Ryerson University, Canada and London Metropolitan University, UK.

Please note the change of venue to Daaga Auditorium, St. Augustine Campus

We welcome you to the home of Carnival and Steel pan for this gathering, where you will have the opportunity to meet some of the foremost tourism and cultural experts worldwide. It is the intent of these sessions to focus on a broad range of topics that are related to tourism, culture and the creative industries. The conference will also provide a forum for industry stakeholders, executives, consultants, government officials, tourism practitioners, members of the various creative industries, professional associations and groups, networks of cultural actors, graduate students and civil society organizations to explore issues of mutual interest at all levels.  We welcome a mix of theoretical and policy-oriented papers from a range of disciplines on the conference theme.

It is no coincidence that the Conference is being hosted one month before Trinidad and Tobago’s Carnival, which has been called the ‘Greatest Show on Earth’.  A number of exciting field trips are being planned to the steel pan yards, the masquerade camps and the calypso tents in order to give participants opportunities to explore and experience firsthand the synergy between these three industries.
