Undergraduate Degree Programme Requirements
B.Ed. In-Service Primary (General)
The New full-time programme targets teachers who are employed in primary schools within Trinidad and Tobago and who possess:
- A Teacher’s Diploma - Duration: Two years. Beginning July [2 fully online courses during a six-week session from July -August]
OR
- 5 CSEC passes (Grades 1, 2 and Grade 3 from 1998) including English Language and Mathematics, and passes in 2 CAPE subjects
OR
- 5 CSEC passes (Grades 1, 2 and Grade 3 from 1998) including English Language and Mathematics and evidence of active participation in continuous professional development courses. Interview compulsory
B.Ed. In Early Childhood Care And Education
- A Diploma from an approved Teacher Training College
OR
- Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education/ Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Development
AND
- Professional experience as a teacher that is deemed satisfactory by the Faculty
BA Programmes
- Minimum of five (5) passes in CSEC (CXC) General Proficiency (Grades I - II pre 1998; Grade I - III from 1998) or GCE subjects (Grades A - C) which must include English Language
- Passes in any two-2-unit CAPE or GCE A-level subjects, one of which must be a Humanities subject.
Special Additional Departmental Requirements for BA programmes
BA Dance
- Passes in two GCE A-level or two 2-Unit CAPE subjects, or approved equivalents
- Pass a Dance audition
OR
- A Certificate in Dance and Dance Education with a minimum B average
BA Film
- Mature students must have at least 5 years relevant experience
- NB. May be required to attend an interview and submit a proposal
BA Musical Arts
- B+ average in the Certificate in Music
OR
- Grade 7 in Music
AND
- Pass in an audition
BA Theatre Arts
- 'B' average in the Practitioner’s Certificate in Drama-in-Education/ Theatre-in-Education
OR
- Certificate in Technical Theatre Production
BA Visual Arts
- The Certificate in Visual Arts
- Presentation of a portfolio of at least ten (10) pieces of recent art/design work and/or pass in a interview
OR
- A pass in advanced level Art and Design
BA Speech and Language Science
- Candidates should possess a Science subject at CAPE/GCE A-level, preferably Biology, or approved equivalents,
- Students without this qualification must complete Preliminary Biology I (BIOL 0061) and Preliminary Biology II (BIOL 0062) in their first year.
- Candidates over the age of 21 and who have five years experience in a relevant field will also be eligible.
- All candidates will be subject to an interview
Undergraduate Certificate and Diploma Programme Requirements
Certificate in Art & Science of Coaching
- A minimum of three (3) subjects at CSEC/CXC General Proficiency Grades I and II, and from June 1998, Grade III, or GCE ‘O’ Level (Grades A-C) passes, which must include English Language, or approved equivalent qualifications.
- At least three (3) years coaching experience at Club, School of Community level or be attached to an organisation as a Sports Officer
- Reached a standard of literacy equivalent o Form Five or approved equivalent standing.
Certificate in Music
- Have at least five (5) Years secondary education with a minimum of four CXC (CSEC) General Proficiency Grades I or II and from 1998 Grade III or GCE O’level passes, including English Language.
- Grade 3 Theory or Practical Certificate or equivalent
- Music ability as exhibited by solo performance on any Pan and Grade III Theory Certificate or equivalent
- Foundation level training in the Arts and/or involvement in the Performing Arts as teachers or practitioners
- Pass in an audition and interview
Certificate in Visual Arts
- Candidates should normally have a minimum of five (5) subjects at CXC (CSEC) General Proficiency (Grades I or II and from 1998 Grade III) or GCE O-level passes which must include English Language and Art.
- Presentation of a portfolio of at least eight (8) pieces of recent art/design work
- Pass in an interview
Practitioner’s Certificate in Drama-in Education/Theatre-in-Education
- Candidates should normally have a Teacher’s Certificate or a minimum of five (5) CXC (CSEC) General Proficiency (Grades I or II and from 1998 Grade III) or GCE O’level passes, including English Language.
- Foundation level training in the Arts and/or involvement in the Performing Arts as teachers or practitioners
- Pass in an audition and interview
Certificate in Dance and Dance Education
- Candidates should normally have a Teacher’s Certificate or a minimum of five (5) CXC (CSEC) General Proficiency (Grades I or II and from 1998 Grade III) or GCE O’level passes, including English Language;
- Have foundation level training in dance and/or be involved in the performing arts as teachers and/or practitioners
- Pass an interview and dance audition
Certificate in Technical Theatre Production
- Candidates should normally have a minimum of five (5) CXC (CSEC) General Proficiency (Grades I or II and from 1998 Grade III) or GCE O’level passes, including English Language;
- Have foundation level training in theatre and/or be involved in the performing/production arts as teachers and/or practitioners
- Pass an interview
Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Development
- Five (5) CSEC/GCE O’level /BGCSE passes, or approved equivalent, one of which must be English Language.
- A police certificate of character
- Mathematics is an asset.
Diploma in Health Visiting
Applicant must:
- be a citizen of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago
- not be over the age of fifty-five (55) at the time of application
- hold permanent appointment with the Ministry of Health or hold contractual appointment with the Regional Health Authorities
- have over five (5) years working experience
- possess a post-basic Nursing qualification acquired at least 6 months prior to time of application
- hold current registration with the Nursing Council of Trinidad & Tobago
Special Requirements
Applicant must:
- possess a post basic qualification in midwifery and/or psychiatric nursing (for male nurses only) and either
- have had a period of satisfactory experience in the Community Health Services or
possess any other qualification deemed appropriate by the Faculty
Diploma in Caribbean Sign Language Interpreting
- Have at least five (5) years secondary education with a minimum of five (4) CSEC (CXC) General Proficiency (Grades I or II pre-1998 and Grades I, II or III from June 1998) or GCE O’level /BGCSE passes, or approved equivalents, including English Language and Mathematics
- At least two (2) years involvement in working with a Deaf community in a capacity which necessitates the use of Sign language.
