What was 2024/2025 like on the St. Augustine campus? Hear the perspective of two key figures from the Campus Council: the Chair and the Campus Principal.

From the Council Chair

Over the past year and a half, since taking on the role of Council Chair, I have come to see a side of the St Augustine Campus that most alumni never do — and it has changed the way I think about what we owe this institution.

As students, many of us took The UWI for granted. It was the place we came to master a discipline, find our footing and, along the way, form the friendships and networks that would sustain us for decades. As graduates, we remember it warmly but from a comfortable distance. Now, sitting in this seat at a time when universities far older and far better-resourced than ours are all grappling with versions of the same pressures, I understand clearly: we can no longer take this great West Indian tradition for granted.

— Mr Robert Riley, Chair of the St Augustine Campus Council of The UWI

From the Campus Principal

This year we celebrated our 65th anniversary under the theme “Beyond 65: From the Caribbean, For the World,” which highlighted both our history and our responsibility to face a changing future. This Report shows how the St Augustine Campus continued to push beyond obstacles, expectations and traditional limits, even with financial constraints.

Throughout the year we focused on people, innovation and strong partnerships, and strengthened the intentional culture shift that began in 2022, from a mindset of limitation to one of enterprise and creative problem-solving. Despite reduced government funding and pressure on staff and infrastructure, the Campus continues to grow in confidence and capability— investing in new revenue streams, strengthening research, improving student satisfaction and deepening our work with communities and key sectors.

— Professor Rose-Marie Belle Antoine, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Campus Principal of The UWI St Augustine
