Movement and the ability to maintain independence in mobility is important across a lifespan. Yet, despite the known benefits of exercise, sedentary lifestyle continues to be a leading contributor to the development of lifestyle-related diseases across the globe.A degree in Sport Kinetics will focus on the scientific study of the development of movement, the interaction between physical activity and health states, factors contributing to development of high performance athletes, and methods to improve mobility in persons with physical challenges. These are all important for the development of programmes that will not only help to maintain a healthy population but also increase production of outstanding athletes in the region. Starting with insight into the History of Sport in the Caribbean and its impact on the society, this programme introduces the Science of Movement in Sport and its application. Gaining knowledge of Functional Anatomy and Physiology, students will be exposed to Applied Sport Science to enhance athletic potential, through Exercise, Psychology, Nutrition and Biomechanics. Research Methods will be taught to enable critical thinking and the Research Project will be a critical component of the assessment.
