To foster an interest in the engineering profession, IEEE also serves student members in colleges and universities around the world. The IEEE has 483 student branch chapters at colleges and universities and has more than 80,000 student members in 80 countries worldwide.

The Student Branch of the IEEE T&T Section was started in May 2004. It serves students by hosting technical talks by Professional Engineers, technical presentations and management. Of particular interest to students taking the final year course in Industrial and Commercial Electrical Systems is the annual lecture on "Power Systems Grounding" which is hosted jointly by the IEEE T&T Student Branch and the IEEE T&T Industry Applications Society Chapter.

The IEEE is a leading authority on areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics among others. Members rely on IEEE as a source of technical and professional information, resources and services.
