Dr Julia Kotzebue is a lecturer in the Department of Geomatics Engineering and Land Management's MSc. Urban and Regional Planning Program. She holds a PhD in Sustainability Governance and Technology from the Department of Technology and Governance for Sustainability (CSTM), University of Twente, The Netherlands. Her thesis has been long-listed for the Van Poelje Prize for the best PhD research in the Netherlands and Belgium. Dr Kotzebue gained her M.A. and B.A. in International Organizations and Relations from the Department of Social Science, University of Groningen, The Netherlands. Julia has a certificate in Higher Education Management from the University of Hamburg, as well as a certificate in governance from the Dutch Institute of Governance at Erasmus University Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Dr Kotzebue has collaborated in several international research consortiums founded by the European Union. As co-manager of the international research project "Schools at University" at the UT Twente, and member of the advising team for education for sustainable development at the University of Hamburg, she fostered transformative learning in higher education institutes.

Her research interests are in spatial governance, participatory planning, e-planning, participatory GIS (geographical information systems), immersive virtual reality in planning, sustainable integrated planning, sustainable transport, and education for sustainable development. She is the founder of the UWI sustainable transport working group and editor of the book "Towards Sustainable Transport and Mobility." Julia is a member of the Urban-e-Planning Network, has written many articles and reports, and is a reviewer for the International Journal of E-Planning.
