
The St. Augustine Campus is pleased to announce Dr Bheshem Ramlal as the new Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, effective October 1, 2023. (Dr Ramlal will serve as interim Dean from August 1 to September 30)
Dr Ramlal is a Senior Lecturer in Geomatics Engineering. He holds a BSc. Land Surveying from The UWI St. Augustine and a Postgraduate Diploma and an MSc. in Integrated Map and Geoinformation Production from the International Institute for Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences from the University of Twente in the Netherlands. His academic qualifications also include a PhD in Spatial Information Engineering from the University of Maine, USA, and a Certificate in Education, Teaching, and Learning from University of British Columbia, Canada.
In 1988, Dr Ramlal joined the Department of Geomatics Engineering and Land Management where he served in various capacities, including two terms as Head of Department. He has served as Vice President and member of the executive of WIGUT for several years. His public service includes serving as the Chairman on the Board of Directors of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure Council of Trinidad and Tobago and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago. His work continued as a GIS expert at the international, regional, and national levels.
He is a member of the International Geospatial Society, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors, and the Institute of Surveyors of Trinidad and Tobago. Dr Ramlal’s research is focused on Geospatial Knowledge Infrastructure, data curation, geospatial data dissemination and policy development, and GIS in education.
He succeeds Professor Edwin Ikenna Ekwue. The Campus recognises and thanks Professor Ekwue for his contributions.
