Development of the new material (polystyrene Mortar) from EPS wastes

This innovation was successfully accomplished by the construction of a one room house (Model House) shown in Figure 1.  This particular model house was constructed using concrete blocks bonded using Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) plastic wastes mortar. This project has enormous positive impacts on the environment based on the following points:

  1. The voluminous EPS  wastes  were  minimized
  2. Substitution of the energy intensive Portland Cement
  3. Minimizing the use of the energy intensive Portland Cement
  4. Reduce the amount of carbon dioxide pollution
  5. Minimizing flooding in Trinidad and Tobago
