The annual PetroBowl® competition  hosted by The Society of Petroleum Engineers International matches SPE student chapter teams from diverse universities against one another in a fast—paced quiz competition covering technical and non—technical aspects of the oil and gas industry. The contest has grown in size and popularity since its debut in 2002, and in 2015 was taken global with the introduction of six regional qualifier contests. Regional qualifier competitions now take place in the Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, South
America and Caribbean, Middle East, and North America SPE regions, and the top 32 teams are invited to the PetroBowl® Championship.

On June 24th 2018 the University of the West Indies SPE Student Chapter participated in the South America and Caribbean Regional Qualifier hosted in our home country for the first
time which was a preceding event to the SPE T&T Section 2018 Energy Resources Conference held at the HYATT Regency Hotel. After four successful rounds of competition and arduous mental effort we faced off against the seasoned and experienced Universidad Federal Do Rio De Janeiro, Brazil for the final round of the Regional Qualifier.

The University of the West Indies Trinidad and Tobago PetroBowl® Team — with the unwavering help of our chapter facilitator/sponsor Dr. Raffie Hosein — captured 2nd place in the South America and Caribbean Region and thereby earned the team the opportunity to represent the region and more specifically Trinidad and Tobago in the 2018 PetroBowl® Championship that will take place during the SPE Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, September 24th 2018 in Dallas, Texas, USA.

We hope to make the UWI and T&T proud at the upcoming competition
