Congratulations
It is with immense pride and great pleasure that the Faculty of Food and Agriculture (FFA) at The University of the West Indies (UWI-FFA) joins the Caribbean Community and international partners in congratulating Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on his election as Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) for the 2026-2030 term.
Dr. Ibrahim’s election is a landmark achievement. As the first Guyanese and only the second Caribbean national to lead IICA, his appointment is a powerful testament to the region’s exceptional leadership and scientific expertise. His precedent-setting role not only validates the talent within the Caribbean but also paves the way for a new generation of leaders.
The UWI-FFA shares a longstanding and productive partnership with IICA. We eagerly anticipate strengthening this collaboration under Dr. Ibrahim’s leadership as our organizations work in concert to strengthen the resilience of our food systems, advance agricultural development, enhance food security, and promote rural well-being for our stakeholders and member states.
We look forward to collaborating with Director General Ibrahim to ensure that relevant research is not only generated but effectively applied at every level, from policy to project, for the tangible benefit of our agricultural communities across the Caribbean.
