Programme Overview

This programme integrates scientific principles with practical application, providing an understanding of how nutrition impacts physical performance, recovery, and overall health in athletes and active individuals. It is comprised of courses designed to equip students with foundational and applied knowledge in nutrition science as it relates to athletic performance and physical activity to support athletes and fitness enthusiasts with evidence-based nutrition advice.

Programme Breakdown

The Minor in Sports Nutrition comprises of at least 15 credits of advanced courses (Levels II and III) and 6 credits of prerequisites/co-requisites. Students are required to complete all courses in Section A (below) and to take at least 3 credits from the list of courses in Section B.

NOTE:

Students pursuing the Major in Nutritional Sciences, together with a Minor in Sports Nutrition, are required to select the replacement courses for HUEC 3014, 3015 AND 3016 FROM Section B, below since these courses are common courses in the Major in Nutritional Sciences. Please consult with your academic advisor before registering for this minor.

Entry Requirements

To enter into this programme, you must possess one of the following

  • UWI Certificate in Human Ecology
  • Passes in at least two (2) 2-unit CAPE courses or two GCE A-level subjects and a minimum of five (5) subjects at CSEC General Proficiency (Grade I-IIl) or GCE O-level, or their equivalents, which must include English Language and Mathematics

  • An approved Associate Degree with a minimum GPA of 2.5
