Call for Abstracts

The Faculty of Food and Agriculture invites researchers, academics, practitioners, industry professionals, and students to submit abstracts for the International Conference on Food Security & Sustainable Tourism 2026.

This conference explores the interconnections among agriculture, food systems, soil health, cultural gastronomy, sustainable tourism, and climate resilience.

Participants are invited to submit abstracts under any of the following themes:

Cultivating Continuity: Indigenous and local agri-food knowledge for the future
Food, Travel & Identity: The culture of taste and mobility
The Sustainable Feast: Agroecology, local food systems and cultural heritage
Soil Health: Safe soil and soil care as the foundation of food production
Innovation & Entrepreneurship: NCD prevention and healthy food solutions
Agriculture & Natural Resources: Ridge-to-reef approaches in small island states
Climate Change Resilience: Adapting farming systems and communities
Development Financing: The role of banks, insurance companies and multilateral agencies
Taste of Place: Terroir, tradition and tourism experiences
Overtourism: Emerging tensions and sustainability challenges
Cultural Industries & Intellectual Property: Bioresources, copyright, piracy and technology
Regional Policy: National security, food sovereignty and integrated planning
Sustainable Gastronomy Tourism: Business models for community resilience

Additional topics and panel proposals aligned with the conference theme are also welcome.

A selection of presented papers may be considered for publication in a special issue of Tropical Agriculture, the journal of the Faculty of Food and Agriculture.

This two-day international conference will bring together experts in soil science, agriculture, nutrition, tourism, sustainability, and community development.

Discussions will highlight the role of soil health, food systems, cultural heritage, and sustainable tourism in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
