JOB DESCRIPTION
The Faculty of Food and Agriculture invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Knowledge Management and Communications Officer (KMCO): REBYC-III CLME+ and EAF4SG FAO Projects being implemented by The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago.
BACKGROUND
Project Title: REBYC-III CLME+
Strategies, technologies, and social solutions to manage bycatch in tropical Large Marine Ecosystem Fisheries (REBYC-III CLME+).
Project budget: USD 5.3 million
Project duration: 48 months
The objective of the REBYC-III CLME+ project is to manage bycatch and reduce discards in the Caribbean and North Brazil Shelf Large Marine Ecosystems (CLME+), thereby promoting sustainable and responsible fisheries that provide economic opportunities while ensuring the conservation of marine living resources, and supporting country implementation of the CLME+ SAP (particularly Strategies 2, 3 and 5).
Participating countries: Barbados, Guyana, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Project Title: EAF4SG
Enhancing capacity for the adoption and implementation of Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF) in the shrimp and groundfish fisheries of the North Brazil Shelf Large Marine Ecosystem (EAF4SG).
Project budget: USD 1.7 million
Project duration: 48 months
The objective of the EAF4SG project is to advance adoption and implementation of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries (EAF) in the shrimp and groundfish fisheries in the North Brazil Shelf Large Marine Ecosystem (NBSLME), supporting implementation of the CLME+ Strategic Action Programme, specifically Strategy 6.
Participating countries: Guyana, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago.

TENURE OF CONTRACT
The post of Knowledge Management and Communications Officer will be for an initial period of one (1) year, extendable to two (2) years after review.
DUTY STATION
Trinidad & Tobago (UWI Project Management Unit), with travel as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate must possess an advanced university degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field.
Candidates should also possess:

Five (5) years of relevant experience working with strategic communications, preferably within a regional, government, or national organization

Five (5) years of experience in the environment or sustainable development field, preferably with marine environment and fisheries experience

Working knowledge of English

Limited knowledge of Dutch, French, and Portuguese would be advantageous
TECHNICAL / FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
-
Experience in knowledge management and communications, including strategy development and content creation

Strong understanding of effective communications and knowledge management
-
Experience in communication, awareness raising, and content development for fisheries or environmental projects
-
Experience in training and mentoring of stakeholder groups in outreach skills
-
Proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
-
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
-
Proven capacity to work and establish working relationships with medium to high-level government and non-government representatives
-
Ability to work in an international environment with various partners, including donors
-
Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
-
Experience in preparing project technical and financial reports
-
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
-
Familiarity with FAO policies and programmes and systems is desirable
REPORTING LINES
Under the supervision of the Project Steering Committee (PSC), the Technical and Project Coordinator (TPC), and the technical support of the FAO Lead Technical Officers (LTOs).
OBJECTIVES OF THE ASSIGNMENT
The Knowledge Management and Communications Officer (KMCO) will be responsible for the knowledge management and communications aspects of the project at all levels for both the EAF4SG and the REBYC-III CLME+ projects.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare the project-specific KMC strategy and associated work plans and oversee their effective implementation

Liaise with project staff and partners to collect requisite information and content on project activities and achievements

Lead the preparation, processing, documenting, and dissemination of information and communication products, including outreach and awareness-raising materials

Assist project staff and partners in preparing reports and information materials, ensuring quality, accuracy, and clarity
-
Liaise with the GEF IW:Learn and FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Division communications teams to keep project websites updated
-
Design and produce communication materials and ensure quality and consistency across project outputs
-
Develop visual content for reports, presentations, and social media platforms
-
Support dissemination and visibility of technical deliverables
-
Maintain professional standards across all communication outputs
