Dyann A. Barras

I began my teaching career in 1995 as a Business Studies Secondary School teacher. Additionally, I have served as the Head of the Business Studies department and worked as a Part-time time lecturer at both the Institute of Tertiary Tutors and UWI's School of Continuing Studies.

I am currently employed as an Assistant Lecturer at the School of Education, The UWI - St. Augustine Campus. My main responsibility is that of Business Studies supervisor in the post graduate Diploma of Education Programme. In addition, I am also a lecturer/tutor in both the Masters in Education and Bachelor of Education programmes. The courses I teach and/or supervise include Foundations of Education (EDFA5210), Project in the Theory of Education (EDFA 5220), Teaching of Social Sciences (EDSS5280), The Practice of Education (EDTL5230), Education & Development of Social Competencies (EDFA6207), Cultural Diversity Citizenship and Schooling I and II (EDFA 2401 & EDFA 2402) and Education and Challenge of Human Development (EDFA3201).

My research explores the perspectives of students who are involved in part-time work while in school; with a focus on how students’ part-time employment affect/impact upon their school life? My other research encompasses  teacher education and teaching and learning.
