Dr Joanne Nazir is a lecturer at the School of Education, St. Augustine Campus. She holds degrees in Science and Education from the University of the West Indies; and a doctorate in Curriculum Studies and Teacher Development from the University of Toronto. She has worked at the elementary, secondary and tertiary levels in diverse educational institutions in the Caribbean and Canada. She specialises in facilitating courses in teacher education, particularly the teaching of Science. Her teaching is driven by the key idea that the ideal teacher should have strong pedagogical content knowledge and embody the character of a servant leader. Her research interests are related to the areas of Science education, environmental education, and teacher education. Joanne presents and publishes in these areas at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals. She is a member of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), the Canadian Society for Studies in Education (CSSE), and the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST).
