Yvonne Lewis is the Coordinator Masters in Education - Health Promotion at the School of Education, of the University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine Campus. Ms. Lewis is a Health Education/Health Promotion Specialist, with over 30 years’ experience in health education and health promotion in the public sector. She held the posts of Deputy Director Public Health and Health Promotion (2007-2009) and Director Health Education Division, Ministry of Health, Trinidad and Tobago, 2009-2020. She has been a lecturer on the Master in Education-Health Promotion, and the Master in Public Health (MPH) at UWI, St. Augustine Campus for over fourteen (14) years. She served on several international, regional and national health promotion committees including: the World Health Organization’s Expert Committee on Health Promotion; PAHO’s Partners Forum for Action on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs), the National NCD Oversight Committee of the Ministry of Health and the HEARTS Oversight Sub-Committee guiding the implementation of HEARTS in Trinidad and Tobago and was Chairperson of the ECCE Sub Committee of the National Advisory Committee on Education (2017-2020). She led the development of several national policies including the policy on the ‘Prohibition of Sale or Serving of Sugar Sweetened Beverages in Schools in Trinidad and Tobago’, the draft National Health Promoting School Policy; and the Draft National Health Promotion Policy.
She holds a Bachelor of Science-General (UWI, St. Augustine), a Post Graduate Diploma in Community Health Education/Health Promotion (UWI, Mona), a Master in Education (University of Sheffield), and completed all but dissertation toward the Doctorate in Education (EdD), with the University of Sheffield.
