The leadership of the Faculty of Social Sciences Alumni Chapter is comprised of a devoted team of alumni volunteers, Faculty representatives, and student leaders, all aligned to ensure the development, success, and advancement of the Chapter.
The leadership team has the mandate to guide the Chapter’s strategic direction, organize and execute events, and maintain vigorous engagements within the alumni community. There is a 5-member Executive Board comprising a President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, and an Executive Member. An overview of key leadership positions and roles are:
Alumni Chapter President
- Provides overarching leadership and vision for the Alumni Chapter, and spearheads overall efforts and initiatives.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for alumni, University administrators, and partners, to ensure that the Chapter aligns with the Faculty’s goals and objectives.
- Is the official representative for the alumni community at major University events and functions.
- Promotes the development of strategic initiatives.
Vice President
- Supports the President in effecting the Chapter’s activities.
- Act on behalf of the president when required.
- Assists with specific projects or activities of committees, such as organizing events, fundraising ventures, and communication facilitation within the alumni network.
- Liaises with educational institutions and organizations with respect to collaborations and coordination of projects and activities.
Treasurer – Mrs. Koshina Mohammed
Position: Lecturer in Accounting
Date graduated: 2003 & 2008
Koshina is a Lecturer in Accounting and Discipline Lead (Accounting). Koshina joined the Department of Management Studies in January 2012. Prior to this, she held several positions in the industry – Management Accountant, Management Auditor (Internal), Examiner / Accounting Officer and Tutor/Instructor/Lecturer/Co-Writer at various companies across different industries.
Koshina is a Fellow Chartered and Certified Accountant (FCCA), a member of ICATT and a Forensic CPA. She completed the Bachelor of Science Special in Accounting Degree (2003) and Master’s Degree in Business Administration with an International Finance Specialisation (2008) from The UWI St. Augustine Campus and is currently pursuing the PhD in Governance at SALISES, UWI St. Augustine Campus.
Duties:
- Maintains and is responsible for the financial records and management of the Alumni Chapter.
- Executes fundraising activities, budgeting, and disbursing of funds for Chapter activities
- Ensures that there is transparency in the management and use of Chapter’s funds.
- Is accountable for managing Chapter’s funds and routinely prepares and presents financial statements (monthly, biannual, annual).
- Updates Alumni members on the Chapter’s financial position.
Secretary – Ms. Shaunna Thomas
- Masters in Sport Management
- Position: Research Assistant
- Date graduated: May 2018

Shaunna Thomas is currently a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Social Science at the UWI, St. Augustine, though with ten years of sport for development experience managing a healthy lifestyle program at primary schools and communities across South and Central America and the Caribbean. She also has three years of youth development experience at the Ministry of Youth and National Service as a Youth Development Officer along with two years of experience as a Regional Coordinator at the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board. Shaunna is interested in positively contributing to the development of the society via the use of sport and her background in the industry spans across physical training, sport for development and sport management.
Duties:
- Is responsible for maintaining accurate records of all Chapter engagements, including by not limited to, meetings, minutes, communications, and events.
- Is the holder/repository of documentation of Chapter events and communiques.
- Keeps alumni informed about current and upcoming events, initiatives, and opportunities.
Executive Member
Ms. Charmaine Metivier is a Research Fellow with the HEU, Centre for Health Economics of The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. Her research focus is Health Economics; Health Financing, in particular National Health Insurance and Universal Health Coverage; Health Systems Development as it relates to access, efficiency and equity; and Fiscal Policy. She supports countries in the Caribbean by providing technical advice and evidence-based research to inform decision-making and influence health policy and health system development.
Ms. Metivier is a proud graduate of The University of the West Indies where she attained her BSc. Economics and Management (2002) and MSc. Economics (2004).
Duties:
- Works collaboratively with fellow team members to foster Alumni engagements, networking events and all others initiatives associated with the Chapter’s mandate.
Ambassadors
- Represent the Faculty Alumni Chapter.
- Act as role models and liaison representatives of the Association.
- Promote the values of the Alumni’s mission, vision and agenda.
- Foster communication and strong connections with the Alumni.
- Advocate for the Alumni Association, build internal and external relationships, and encourage engagement on activities, events and initiatives with Alumni members.
