Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must possess at minimum, a Master’s degree from a recognised university which should be in Engineering, Sciences or a closely related field.  

Candidates should also possess: 

  • At least five (5) years’ relevant experience in Industry
  • Knowledge of IP Commercialisation
  • IP audit skills for commercial and social returns 

Candidates with the following would have an advantage: 

  • Certification in Business Administration, with specialisation in Financial Management, Innovation, Entrepreneurship or a related field
  • At least three (3) years’ working at a recognised tertiary institution or university
  • Proficiency in the area of Contract Negotiation
  • Proficiency in Programme Management, including financial management 

Certification in Contract Law will be considered an asset.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Working with Academics and Researchers to identify and strategising IP opportunities with commercial, financial and social impact
  • Meeting with private and public sector for due diligence and marketing feedback and designing of funding proposals
  • Developing and staying abreast of high impact research areas nationally, regionally and globally for commercial and social potential
  • Initiating marketing strategies and negotiations with potential investors/licensees
  • Providing commercial input required for contractual agreements
  • Managing, monitoring and assessing performance of agreements
  • Performing other duties related to this role, inclusive of but not limited to special projects being assigned, such as technology transfer - awareness workshops to campus audiences or presentations on UWI STA commercialisation
  • Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Director, St. Augustine Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (StACIE) or designate

Personal Attributes

  • Have the ability to lead diverse, specialised groups
  • Be self-motivated and visionary
