Akeem is a Chemical Engineering lecturer specializing in converting waste streams - particularly seaweed and bio-waste - into practical, high-value products such as biodegradable packaging materials and sustainable process solutions. He has hands-on experience working with industry partners to improve material performance, reduce environmental impact, and optimize manufacturing processes. His consultancy work has supported packaging, safety, and process development challenges, delivering solutions that balance technical feasibility, cost, and regulatory requirements.

Research Interests

  • Converting bio-waste and marine biomass into bioplastics, fuels, and value-added chemicals.
  • Design of alginate-based composites and sustainable packaging materials with improved mechanical and barrier performance.
  • Use of experimental and modelling approaches to improve extraction, conversion, and formulation processes for resource efficiency.
  • Evaluating feasibility, cost, and environmental impacts to support industrial decision-making and scale-up.
  • Assessment of environmentally and economically viable process integrations for low-carbon chemical and fuel production in resource-constrained regions.
