Canada
hall is the only all-male Hall of Residence at the
St. Augustine Campus of the University of the West
Indies. Situated at the south eastern end of the main
campus and within close proximity of the Faculties
of Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, the
Hall is bounded on the west by the central car park,
on the south by Watts Street and on the east and north
by the Sir Frank Worrell playing field.
Brief History:
Built from funds donated by the Canadian Government,
the Hall was opened in 1963, and named after the donor
Government. Originally the Hall housed 192 students
- 32 rooms per floor. The facilities were modified
in 1989 to provide kitchenettes and this reduced the
number of rooms per floor to 28 and a total available
occupancy of 168 students.
Facilities:
Buildings comprise to main blocks, each with three
floors.
Present configuration provides for 168 single rooms
12 kitchenettes, 30 large Common Rooms, shared bathroom
and toilet facilities.
Other facilities include a central laundry area and
one large Common room, which is used as a recreation
area, a meeting hall and for storage of trophies,
and equipped with cable TV, VCR, and sports equipment.
Spacious grounds and close proximity to the Sir Frank
Worrell playing field and the Student Activity Centre.
Kitchenettes equipped with modern appliances.
Rooms wired for telephone service.
Cleaning services of Kitchenettes and Common areas.
Porter services.
Maintenance services through Works Department and
an in house Maintenance Assistant.
Hall houses a computer room with internet access that
is free of charge to residents.

Annual Concert and Variety show.
Inter Floor football, basketball, table tennis and
athletics.
Hall breakfasts.
Pool Line and Jerky-Q.

Strong Scholastic and Academic record - Nineteen (19)
First Class Honors Students from the faculty of Engineering
in the last three (3) years.
Strong bond amongst Hall members who are affectionately
known as "Hermits" on the Campus.
Caribbean min in resident Student population.
