Dr. Sharmila Harry is a lecturer in the area of Curriculum Studies/Teacher Education at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. She completed a BA (Hons.) in English, MA in Literatures in English (distinction), Post-graduate Diploma in Education (distinction) and M.Ed in Education-Curriculum Studies (distinction) from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. She was awarded her PhD from the University of Leicester, in the area of curriculum policy and implementation.

Dr. Harry worked as a high school English Language, Literature and Communication Studies teacher for over twelve years. She then taught for five years in the Diploma and Degree programmes at the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) as a Senior Instructor, before joining the staff at UWI (2011). Prior to this (since 2004, she worked as a part-time lecturer in the Bachelor of Arts programme-Language, Literature and Education at the University of the West Indies. She is also an Examiner in CSEC English for the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC).

Dr. Harry’s research interests include curriculum change/ innovation and implementation, education reform, types of talk in the classroom, qualitative research methods, postcolonial theory and cross-disciplinary studies (education and literature). She has published in the area of curriculum innovation and implementation and classroom talk and presented refereed research papers at conferences in Europe, United States of America and the Caribbean.

In addition to her professional work, Dr. Harry enjoys assisting with literacy projects and community service.
