MPhil/PhD Spanish
MPhil Students
This programme welcomes individuals wanting to pursue higher degrees in any of the major sub-disciplines of Hispanic literature. A candidate for the MPhil is required to read courses totalling a minimum of 6 credits and must pass both coursework and the written examination before submitting the thesis.
Students enrolled in the MPhil degree must satisfactorily complete 2 research seminars.
PhD Students
Our Spanish PhD programme provides solid and demanding training in literary theory and criticism, as well as the study of Hispanic literatures and civilisations from early periods to the present.
A candidate for the PhD is required to read for courses totalling a minimum of 9 credits and must pass both coursework and the written examination before submitting the thesis. Students enrolled in the PhD degree must satisfactorily complete 3 research seminars.

Our lecturers in Hispanic literatures supervise the following broad areas of research:

- Existentialism in Hispanic Literature
- Identity in Spanish Caribbean writing

Student Activities
Postgraduate students are actively encouraged to present at conferences and publish their papers. There are varied funding opportunities open to postgraduate students on campus for conference attendance/participation or other research initiatives.
