English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT)
The ELPT is a two-hour online examination. Students from the Faculties of Humanities and Education, Social Sciences, Law, Science and Technology, Food and Agriculture, and Sport who do not possess one of the following pre-requisites must sit the ELPT in order to register for the Foundation English Courses:
- CAPE Communication Studies Grade I or II
- General Paper, Grade A or B
- CSEC General Proficiency, English Language Grade 1
- GCE/ BGCSE English Language, Distinction (Grade A or I or II)
- TOEFL (Paper Test Score 580+ or Electronic minimum writing score 22)
- An undergraduate degree from an English-speaking University
- UWIDEC/Open Campus Language Skills and Communication (Grade B and above)
- FDMU 0005 Preparatory Academic Writing
Why is ELPT important?
If a student does not possess the criteria listed above, the ELPT is the official method of The UWI that is used to determine a candidate’s suitability for entry into the Faculty’s academic writing course(s).
ELPT Schedule
The ELPT is offered three times in any given academic year: August, October, and February. Click UWI Academic Calendar for the precise dates.
ELPT Preparatory Workshop
This is an 18-hour online optional workshop that is facilitated through six (6) three-hour classes at a cost of TTD 875.00. This workshop seeks to build skills in areas such as formal essay writing, critical reading, analysing graphic organisers, and mechanics of the English language. All materials except the ELPT Booklet are provided during this workshop.
How much does the ELPT exam cost
The ELPT exam costs TTD $200.00. Students must both pay their examination fee and complete the registration jot form on the Faculty of Humanities and Education's website. Registration is only considered complete after proof of payment has been uploaded to the registration jot form.
