About FYE | First Year Experience

The first year of study is a pivotal and transformative milestone in a student’s life, laying the foundation for the university experience that follows. With this in mind, the First Year Experience (FYE) Programme is designed to support new students at every stage of their orientation and transition to university life, ensuring a strong start to their university journey at The UWI, St. Augustine Campus.

Offered annually, the FYE Programme delivers a dynamic and comprehensive suite of new student orientation activities, events, and initiatives tailored to meet students’ informational needs, spark excitement for learning, and foster meaningful connections within the campus community. Through FYE, students are empowered to take ownership of their university journey and become active co-producers of their higher education experience.

The FYE Programme is inclusive and holistic, addressing the diverse needs of all student groups. Participation by all new students is strongly encouraged, as the programme plays a vital role in laying the foundation for success and seamless integration into The UWI St. Augustine’s vibrant and diverse community.

SELF EFFICACY – Design orientation programming to foster a culture where learning concepts promote empowerment and self-efficacy thus motivating students to succeed in their academic and personal endeavors.

TRANSITION PROGRESS – Utilize a strategic and sustained ‘process’ treatment for student engagement that will allow for easy monitoring of how students are navigating their new reality towards effecting early interventions where needed.

ACADEMIC PREPAREDNESS – Put forward consistent and solid efforts that will assist in getting students ready for the rigors of academia.

PERSONAL/SOCIAL INTEGRATION – Foster and lead students in establishing a connection, sense of belonging and community at The UWI St. Augustine Campus.
