Celebrate with us

The Campus celebrated major new leadership appointments, staff excellence in administration and research, student success at graduation, and welcomed a new cohort of Pelicans, ready to soar.

New Campus Chair

In October 2024, Robert Riley was appointed Chair of the St Augustine Campus Council for a five-year term. He succeeds Sharon Christopher, who served since 2018. Mr Riley is a UWI alumnus, an attorney, and the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BP Trinidad & Tobago. His past roles include senior leadership positions in BP PLC in London, Amoco, BP/Amoco, and BWIA. He has served on several major boards and became Chairman of Massy Holdings Ltd in 2023. He is a recipient of the Chaconia Medal (Gold) and holds an honorary Doctor of Laws from The UWI.

New Campus Bursar

Kevin Kalloo was confirmed as Campus Bursar after acting since 2023. He is a Fellow of ACCA and a Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in finance.

New FST Dean

Professor Adesh Ramsubhag became Dean of the Faculty of Science & Technology. A leading microbiologist, he has earned major UWI research awards.

New FSp Dean

Dr Roy McCree was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Sport across all Campuses. He is a pioneer in Caribbean Sport Sociology and introduced the region’s first courses in this field.

Half-Marathon 2024

The 18th edition of the UWI SPEC International Half-Marathon was successfully staged in November 2024. Among the male runners, Tafari Waldron claimed victory in one hour, nine minutes and 53 seconds (1:09:53) while the female winner, Samantha Shukla, finished after one hour, 37 minutes and 06 seconds (1:37:06). The event spotlighted the work of the Dyslexia Association, raising awareness and TTD$12,000.00 to support dyslexics, parents, teachers, and members of the wider community.

STA Researchers and Staff Recognised for Excellence

In November 2024, the Campus celebrated excellence that reached beyond disciplines and roles. The Campus Principal’s Research Awards honoured researchers whose work extends from microbiology and biotechnology to Caribbean development, disaster resilience, and hazard mitigation, including the inaugural Hurricane and Earthquake Alleviation Research (HEAR) Award.

In June 2025, the first SPIRIT of Excellence Awards recognised administrative and support staff, underscoring their vital contributions to institutional impact and regional progress. Together, these awards reflect a shared commitment to advancing knowledge, preparedness, and service in ways that shape a more resilient future.

Enrolment 2024/2025

n the 2024/2025 academic year, the total enrolment (on and off Campus) was 14,061 students, an increase of 2% from the previous period disaggregated by level as follows:  

  • Undergraduate Total: 10,163 (up 1%)
  • Postgraduate Total: 3,898 (up 5%) 

Graduation 2025

In October 2025, there were 3,258 graduands eligible to participate in the graduation ceremonies, disaggregated as follows: 

  • Undergraduate Awards (first degrees, diplomas and certificates): 2,126
  • Postgraduate Awards (higher degrees, advanced certificates and diplomas): 1,132

  • Doctor of Science (DSc)
  • Internationally renowned physician, researcher and educator in paediatric critical care and global health.
