Dr. Karen Eccles
Campus Librarian
Dr. Karen Eccles is the Campus Librarian of The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus. She is an accomplished librarian, historian, researcher and higher education professional with more than two decades of experience in library leadership, special collections, metadata management and public service.
Prior to her appointment as Campus Librarian, Dr. Eccles served as Senior Librarian I in the West Indiana and Special Collections Division of the Alma Jordan Library.
She holds a PhD in History and a Bachelor of Arts degree from The UWI, a Master of Information Studies from the University of Toronto and an International Master of Business Administration, specialising in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, from the Arthur Lok Jack Global School of Business. She also holds professional certificates in project management and resource mobilisation for higher education.
Since joining the Alma Jordan Library in 2009, Dr. Eccles has served across several areas, including the Humanities Division, User Services and the Cataloguing and Metadata Unit. Her work has included faculty liaison, information literacy, digital resource development, archival discovery, exhibitions, space redesign and the creation of improved access points for Caribbean research collections.
Dr. Eccles is also an award-winning author and editor, with one of her co-edited publications receiving the gold medal in the Independent Publisher Book Awards. She has contributed extensively to the University and to professional and public service through leadership, research support, outreach, staff representation and participation in regional and international library and higher education organisations.
She brings to the role of Campus Librarian a strong record of scholarship, service, innovation and collaborative leadership.
