The Confucius Institute at The UWI, St. Augustine Campus is a non-profit educational institution for Mandarin Chinese language teaching and the promotion of Chinese culture. It is operated in partnership with Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and China Agricultural University (CAU). Officially launched on October 23rd 2013, it is the first institute of its kind in Trinidad and Tobago, and the second in the Caribbean region.
Our goal is to teach and provide educational resources for learners of the Mandarin Chinese language, and to encourage and strengthen cultural exchange and co-operation between China and Trinidad and Tobago.
I loved learning Mandarin with the Confucius Institute, not only because of its top-quality language teaching but also because I was able to gain insight into Chinese culture and history. My weekly classes were a wonderful way to meet various people from all different walks of life, invested in the learning and appreciation of Chinese language and culture. Together, we enjoyed our interactive classes, practising our tones and characters.
